How One Can Cut back on Persistent As well as Bothersome Tummy Fat

By Alex Blaken

Carrying a lot of stomach fat is not merely a vanity issue, it can also be a serious health concern. The fat that so many people have bulging over their belt buckles is actually not the main problem. The real issue is what lies beneath the surface in what is know as visceral fat. It's the fat that accumulates between the organs and is linked to heart disease and type-2 diabetes.

Heart disease and type two diabetes are both conditions that are strongly correlated with visceral fat. It's hugely important therefore to keep belly fat in check by making the right lifestyle choices. Unfortunately, there's no way to specifically target fat on the stomach. It can only be lost as part of an overall fat loss program. There are however plenty of ways to lose fat, and some of them are pretty straightforward, if not necessarily easy.

Cut the Refined Sugar: Sugar enters the bloodstream very rapidly and the body responds by producing the hormone insulin to cope with it. One of the main problems with this process is that when too much glucose is present, insulin will take that excess and direct it to be stored as fat. What's more, some research suggests that refined carbohydrates like sugar encourage the build up of visceral fat.

The consumption of refined sugar is best limited to treats and special occasions. At other times, it should be completely avoided. This can be a challenge since sugar is used in so many products. That said, sugar can be largely avoided and taking just this one step is a massive aid to fat loss and overall health.

It's found in a vast variety of processed foods and drinks and is virtually impossible to avoid if you consume these products. The simplest strategy is to stick to whole, fresh, additive-free foods (see below).

Eliminate trans fats: Trans fats are a nutritional disaster. These industrially produced fats are found in most processed foods, and anyone consuming products like donuts, cookies, cakes, and french fries can be pretty sure they're taking them in.

The human body cannot use this unnatural type of fat and it can only add to visceral fat accumulation. Natural, healthy fats like organic butter, extra-virgin olive oil and organic coconut oil are vastly superior choices.

Cut the processed foods: Not only do they tend to contain trans fats, they also tend to have high levels of salt and sugar. Manufacturers load up their products with these ingredients to add the flavor that is lost in processing. They also may contain a lot of chemical additives that are nutritionally useless. Stick to whole, fresh, home cooked foods.

People complain that they don't have the time or energy to cook for themselves. But this really just illustrates how little people know about what's possible with a bit of skill and imagination. A quick search on Amazon will bring up plenty of books with quick and easy recipes for delicious, nutritious meals. There's really no excuse not to rustle up something that's not only vastly superior to processed food, but will also stave off stomach fat.
